The EHESS is offering a post-doctoral contract for research on the topic of: Language and society in North Africa
This postdoctoral fellowship is open to researchers studying North Africa - Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia, with a possible extension to Egypt and North Sudan or to the Tuareg regions of the central Sahara. Applications should fall within one or more of the fields and research questions of one or several EHESS research centers. Knowledge of one or more languages of the region (Arabic and Berber in particular) is required, as is the use of fieldwork-grounded methods. Applications should be committed to nurturing the dialogue between history, social sciences, political sciences, and language sciences.
The contract is for twelve months starting on 1st September 2021 with a gross salary of 2365 € a month.

- A curriculum vitae with a list of publications
- A copy of your PhD diploma or a certificate attesting the authenticity of your degree
- Your PhD dissertation defense report.
- A letter of motivation/application addressed to the President of the EHESS
- A five-page maximum document stating your research project and post-doc activities which addresses specifically the chosen research theme.
The research and post-doc activities project may be submitted in English however, a good grasp of written and spoken French is required.

Applicants may apply to only one position chosen from among the ten topics. Dossiers submitted for multiple topics will not be accepted.

All candidates must have defended their theses between between 1 January 2018 and 31 January 2021. This offer is not open to PhD’s from the EHESS or EHESS-associated institutions.
We are particularly interested in very interdisciplinary projects with an international scope and which open up a potential for dialogue with several laboratories or fields at the EHESS.
